The Global Efficient Lighting Forum will bring together representatives from governments, the private sector, international financial institutions and international agencies committed to bringing about a global transition to energy efficient lighting. Its aim is to achieve a consensus on the financial, technical, and policy actions required to accelerate the global transition to advanced lighting technologies in order to mitigate climate change.
The event is being presented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP Collaborating Center on Efficient Lighting – Global Efficient Lighting Center (GELC) and will take place from 10-11 November, 2014, in Beijing, China.
The Global Forum will mark the first time that governments and key stakeholders will jointly develop a voluntary global action plan for a coordinated move to energy efficient lighting in all sectors. International experts and invited guests will define the issues that need to be addressed for a sustainable transition to energy efficient lighting to occur more rapidly and at a global scale. The result will be a coordinated international strategy clearly defining priorities and steps that should be taken to transform markets at the global level.
The UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative seeks to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency by 2030. The Global Forum will constitute a key contribution to achieving the energy efficiency target of SE4ALL initiative and global efforts to reduce emission of greenhouse gases through the more efficient use of energy.
Participation in the event is by invitation only. For additional information, please contact Angelica Afanador at firstname.lastname@example.org
